About the Village...

Founded in May 2020, Saylor’s Village was created in response to crisis — but built for long-term impact. What began as a childcare and tutoring service designed to fill critical gaps in care during the COVID-19 pandemic quickly evolved into something larger: a community-rooted organization committed to strengthening Birmingham families.

Birmingham born and bred, Saylor’s Village understands the unique challenges and strengths of the communities it serves. From the beginning, the Village has centered care, consistency, and culturally grounded support as its core values. The work is practical, relationship-driven, and responsive to real needs.

As a participant in the Urban Impact BECOME Cohort, Saylor’s Village strengthened its organizational capacity and expanded its vision for sustainable community engagement. The Village maintains professional partnerships with Creed63, the Institute of Human Rights at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama, and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, along with other community organizations committed to equity and opportunity.

While Saylor’s Village works to benefit all members of the Birmingham community, it brings particular experience and passion to serving marginalized and historically disenfranchised populations. The Village operates with the understanding that equitable access to education, safe spaces, food, and opportunity should not be privileges — they are foundations for thriving communities.

Saylor’s Village is more than an organization. It is a network of relationships, a space for growth, and a commitment to building a Birmingham where every family has the support and dignity they deserve.

The Village strengthens communities through education, urban agriculture, and culturally responsive programming. We promote self-sustainability, healthy living, and community cohesion while challenging harmful narratives about child development in communities of color. Our work equips future generations with the tools and confidence to define their values, pursue their purpose, and contribute meaningfully to society.
